Biography
Lauren discovered her personal interest in plant science late in my education; and after a couple of awe-inspiring lectures on plant bio-chemical defence pathways, she changed her degree to Plant Sciences.
After her degree, Lauren went on to complete a PhD in wheat genetics and global food security. Whilst she enjoyed my time in academia and research, she wanted a job that was more people focussed. She particularly enjoys working with teenagers and young adults.
In her current role as the Secondary Education Officer at Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum (OBGA), Lauren designs, develops and delivers school education programmes, develops collaborative projects with colleagues at the University of Oxford or partners at other botanical institutions, and runs events such as Meadows Day with a public engagement focus.
βIt is my belief that we need the brightest minds of the next generation to work in a plant related field to help us resolve some of humanities greatest challenges β it is our responsibility to inspire and educate those young minds. I further believe digital engagement is key as a hook for the younger generation, and aim to develop online resources using as many different branches of technology as possible, including social media, audio guides and trails and augmented or virtual reality.β
